Family Caregiver Program

What is a Family Caregiver?

A family caregiver provides direct support to a family member with an intellectual and/or developmental disability. A family caregiver may assist with tasks such as bathing, dressing, administering medication, and housekeeping. Family caregivers are also responsible for developing opportunities for community inclusion and socialization.

The level of caregiver involvement is determined by the client and their care team.

Family caregivers are considered independent contractors who provide residential services through PPCH. Independent contractors must pass a background check and complete training on medication administration, first aid/CPR, their family member’s civil rights, incident reporting, and MANE (mistreatment, abuse, neglect, and exploitation.)

  • Access to 24-hour on-call agency nursing staff
  • Support from an agency program director, who will assist in navigating system requirements and paperwork
  • Individualized, state-required training, provided by agency staff and tailored for family caregivers
