Certified Kinship

Why Choose PPCH Instead of Certifying Through a County?

Choosing who will walk alongside you during a kinship placement matters. At PPCH, we believe families deserve support that feels personal, consistent, and compassionate, especially during such an emotional and life-changing time.

What is Kinship?

Kinship care is when a child is placed with someone they already know and trust, like a grandparent, aunt, uncle, adult sibling, close family friend, or another meaningful connection. Kinship helps children stay connected to their family, culture, and community during a difficult time.

What is the difference between Foster Care and Kinship Care?

Foster care typically involves licensed foster parents who may not know the child before placement.
Kinship care is different because the caregiver already has a relationship with the child. At PPCH, we value and support those existing bonds and walk alongside kinship families every step of the way.

Can Kinship caregivers get financial support?

Yes! Certified kinship caregivers are eligible for financial support, along with additional services and resources to help meet the child’s needs.

Do I need training to be a kinship provider?

Yes. To become certified as a kinship provider, an initial 6 hours of training is required. PPCH makes this training approachable, supportive, and focused on setting you up for success.

How long is the process?

The timeline can vary depending on each family’s situation. At PPCH, we are dedicated to making the process as quick and smooth as possible, while ensuring everyone involved feels informed, supported, and cared for.

Is there county involvement if I work with a child placement agency?

Yes. The county remains involved in the case and decision-making for the child. One of the biggest benefits of being certified through PPCH is that our agency is here to support you, your home, and your family while working alongside the county.

What resources are available to kinship providers at PPCH?

When you’re certified with PPCH, you’re never doing this alone. Kinship providers may have access to:
  • Reimbursement and financial support
  • Therapeutic services for children and families
  • Monthly trainings and support opportunities
  • Personal advocacy for you, your family, and your home
  • Personalized supports based on your unique needs
  • A small, dedicated team of professionals available 24/7
  • Family events and opportunities to build community
  • In-house nursing support
  • An excellent working relationship with Colorado counties
We are always happy to help connect you to the right resources at the right time.

Still have questions?

PPCH covers all training and fees related to licensing. All applicants are assigned a certified kinship worker to help them through the licensing process. The process for certified kinship involves multiple background checks and a series of clinical home interviews. Applicants should expect the process to take 3-4 months from start to finish.

Our certified kinship participants and foster parents are located throughout the Denver metro. Close proximity to the Lakewood PPCH office is not a requirement.

We’d love to hear from you and support you however we can.
