Family Caregiver Program

Family members providing day-to-day supports and services

What is a Family Caregiver?

Under the Family Caregiver option, individuals receive their services directly from a family member instead of an unrelated staff. This may include assistance with tasks such as bathing, dressing, medications or housekeeping. The amount and type of involvement is determined by the customer and their team.

Is the Family Caregiver a PPCH employee or contractor?

At PPCH, we understand that no one knows the needs of the individuals we serve as well as the individual’s family members. Therefore, we created the Family Caregiver Program which allows individuals to continue to live with their family member while receiving paid day to day services and support from that family member. Family Caregivers are considered independent contractors to provide residential services through PPCH. Independent contractors have to pass a background check and must complete training that includes medication administration, first aid/CPR and training on rights, incident reporting and abuse and neglect. Family Caregivers provide individualized supports that help their family member with various aspects of residential living. Services may include support and training with personal care, household skills, social skills or any other personal goals to help achieve independence. Family Caregivers are also responsible for developing opportunities for community inclusion and socialization.

What supports can I receive from a Family Caregiver?

  • Access to on-call agency nursing staff
  • Support from an agency program director who will assist you in navigating system requirements and paperwork
  • Individualized state required training by our agency staff and tailored for family caregivers

What is “Comp in the Home”?

The only difference between the Family Caregiver program and Comprehensive Waiver in the home is that instead of a family member providing the services, a PPCH staff member does.
